The Moët flowed and the red carpet was rolled out for the long awaited Diamond Walk in Sandton City this week.

Many of the brands along this blue-chip piece of real estate had their own launches, such as the revamped Louis Vuitton store as well as the brand new Sandton City Prada store, which set tongues wagging and the social media alight.

Sandton City has long been a destination for mega-wealthy shoppers from all over the rest of Africa. Despite having the bulk of Africa's billionaires Nigeria still has to rival South Africa in the shopping mall stakes, as do Egypt and Morocco.

So if it's luxury goods the aforementioned billionaires are after it's just a quick flight to "Africa's most affluent playground", Johannesburg and its most glittering shopping mall of them all, Sandton.

With brands like the abovementioned as well as Giorgio Armani, Ermengildo Zegna, Jimmy Choo, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Tod's and Billionaire Italian Couture lining the swanky walkway through to the Intercontinental Sandton Sunyour average billionaire will find it hard to keep his/her credit card in their pocket!

One of the most beautiful additions is the Arque Champagne Crescent, featuring Perrier-Jouët champagne. The bar is beautifully designed and surrounded by all cream decor.

The Diamond Walk launch was attended by the elite of Johannesburg, including many local celebrities who helped raise the profile of the event even further.

All the shops opened their doors at 8pm, including the Cartier boutique, and guests were treated to a series of magnificent food stations proffered by top hatted waiters.

The CEO of Liberty Group, Thabo Dloti, had the honour of cutting the ribbon after MC Ursula Chikane gave an opening speech.
