The Land Rover Africa Cup, held annually at Inanda Club, is now in its sixth year and offers an action-packed day for polo lovers.

The 2016 tournament, which takes place over the weekend of 16 - 18 September, will feature some of Africa’s top polo players and teams up against their South African counterparts.

The theme this year is "Quintessential Polo – Above & Beyond", providing exciting scope for the choice of costume of the day. Joburgers love to dress up and will no doubt spend a great deal of time and thought on "what to wear".

Fashion aficionados gathered on the scenic Inanda clubhouse terraces will get a lot of help in the form of spring trends created by South African designers. Corporate hospitality packages include a variety of privately owned suites where spectators have the option of revelling in the action from the edge of the pitch or appreciating the towering view from the top floor of the Inanda Club House.

Another polo event sponsored by Land Rover South Africa is the Inanda Gold Cup Tournament,  designed to be the most competitive South African Club Tournament.

Characterised by fast action polo with the game’s daring players and magnificent horses thundering in the glorious country setting of the Inanda Club, the tournament, which took place earlier in the autumn 2016, hosted local players and teams playing under their clubs' names, including last year's Face of the Land Rover Africa Gold Cup Zompie Totetsi, who played in the first match and then umpired.

Also playing was Craig James, who is charge of polo development at Inanda.

The re-launched tournament, which is now a 6-goal, heightened the rivalry and spirit between the teams and supporters.

In addition to the Development Cup and the Land Rover Africa Cup, Land Rover South Africa also sponsors the Gold Cup as the Land Rover provides speed, adrenaline and the thrill, which are synonymous with the game of polo.

“We were proud to present the Inanda Gold Cup once again this year, especially with the new structure, which will see an increase in the competitiveness in the game,” says Lisa Mallett, ‎marketing and communications director - Jaguar Land Rover South Africa & Sub-Sahara Africa.

“The club is extremely excited to be casting the spotlight onto this tournament as we’ve successfully positioned other properties that are pioneering the sport of polo. We look forward to seeing greater growth with our partners to encapsulate the essence of the tournament,” says Paul Oosthuizen, Inanda Club GM.

Inanda Club always provides a spectacular inner city setting for fans of the game and the public, members of the club and private guests enjoyed a glorious autumn day while watching the Game of Kings.

The best vantage point was from the top deck of the club with its unrivalled views of the Johannesburg skyline where a magnificent lunch awaited guests as well as welcome glasses of champagne.

Polo aficionado Edith Venter, who organises the Pink Polo, held at the club was celebrating the Gold Cup match with her family and will no doubt attend the Land Rover Africa Cup as well.
