Best red carpet jewellery at Golden Globes 2017

The red carpet at this year's 74th Golden Globes Awards in Los Angeles reflected the excitement of a new year with some extraordinary showstoppers.  In fact, the jewels stole the show from the couture this year as the stars and nominees positively dripped in gemstones, pearls, vintage pieces and heartstoppingly beautiful diamonds from big name jewellers. Rings, hair ornaments and unusual usage were the order of the day.

Unforgettable jewellery moments included presenter Drew Barrymore wearing more than $2.5 million of Harry Winston diamonds. Diamonds really were her best friend on the night as she showed off Mrs. Winston Diamond Drop Earrings, 27.5 carats, set in platinum as well as a positive constellation of rings.

Drew posed on the red carpet with no less than seven rings adorning her fingers: a Sparkling Cluster Diamond Ring, 2.35 carats, set in platinum, an Emerald-Cut Diamond Rock Band, 11.51 carats, set in platinum, a Round Brilliant and Emerald-Cut Diamond Band Ring, 2.04 carats, set in platinum, a Lotus Diamond Ring, 4.47 carats, set in platinum, a Lotus Cluster Diamond Ring, 1.28 carats, set in platinum, a South Sea Pearl and Diamond Ring, 37.03 carats, set in platinum, and a Lily Cluster Diamond Ring, .18 carats, set in platinum.

And if that was not enough, nominee Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture and Cecil B. DeMille Award Recipient Meryl Streep attracted attention not only for her speech on the abuse of power but for a stunning pair of Radiant Cut Yellow Diamond Earrings, approx. 13.62 carats, set in 18k yellow gold.

Nominee Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture Lily Collins looked ravishing in Vintage 1967 Winston Cluster Diamond Drop Earrings, 8.94 carats, set in platinum, Winston Cluster Pear-Shape Diamond Ring, 3.7 carats, set in platinum, Sparkling Cluster Diamond Ring, 2.28 carats, set in platinum and a Sunflower Diamond Twin Ring, 1.81 carats, set in platinum.

Presenter Kristen Bell wore more than 115 Carats of Harry Winston Diamonds, including Vintage 1963 Three Row Diamond Hoop Earrings, 42.54 carats, set in platinum, a Secret Combination Diamond Bracelet, 68.57 carats, set in platinum, Stacked Diamond Band Rings, 4.25 carats total, set in platinum and a Diamond Band Ring, 2.64 carats, set in platinum.

Viola Davis, Nominee Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, wowed viewers in 90 Carats of Harry Winston Diamonds, including Secret Combination Diamond Hoop Earrings, 18.76 carats, set in platinum and a Carpet Diamond Bracelet, 74.22 carats, set in platinum, which perfectly offset her daffodil yellow dress. 

Thandie Newton, Nominee Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture for TV, captured attention for her elegant "back jewellery". She wore more than 75 Carats of Harry Winston Diamonds, which included  Vintage 1962 Diamond Earrings, 11.84 carats, set in platinum, a Bezel Set Fancy-Shape Diamond Necklace which she wore draped down her back, 47.66 carats, set in platinum, and rings, including a Radiant-Cut Diamond Band Ring, 5.25 carats, set in platinum, a Round Brilliant Diamond Band Ring, 4.04 carats, set in platinum and a Round Brilliant Diamond Band Ring, 6.52 carats, set in platinum.

Even though the event was the ladies' night, when it came to sensational pieces the gents were not forgotten and Christian Slater, nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture for TV, showed off a handsome Harry Winston Midnight Retrograde Second 42mm Automatic Timepiece in 18k white gold as well as Diamond Cufflinks, set in 18k white gold.

There were some sensational Tiffany & Co pieces, including Natalie Portman's Tiffany Archival platinum and diamond bracelet. which dated back to 1911. Natalie, who was nominated for Best Actress for her work in “Jackie”, also wore a selection of Tiffany jewels to complement her Prada dress, these included diamond fringe earrings and a ring with white and yellow diamonds.

Presenter Reese Witherspoon's Tiffany Archival necklace was exquisite and complemented her bright yellow dress; she cleverly teamed this striking neckpiece with yellow diamond earrings and a selection of rings.

Another standout Best Actress winner for her performance in “La La Land” was Emma Stone, whose Tiffany Archival necklace from 1909 and diamond earrings and rings, accompanied a beautifully feminine Valentino gown. 

 Naomie Harris, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Moonlight”, paired her metallic gown with diamond earrings and a selection of platinum and diamond rings from the Tiffany stable.

 Presenter Sienna Miller coupled her white Michael Kors dress with delicious big classic Tiffany pearls and diamond earrings while presenter Gal Gadot complemented her Mugler gown with a diamond and black onyx necklace and ring.

 Host Jimmy Fallon was not to be outshone by the ladies and donned a watch from the Tiffany CT60 collection in 18k rose gold while Jeremy Renner wore a Tiffany CT60 watch in stainless steel. 

Causing a sensation on the red carpet in extraordinary High Jewellery Serpenti Bulgari pieces were Laura Dern, Sophia Stallone (in a Serpenti necklace in white gold with round mounted setting pavé) and Zoe Saldanha.

Monica Belluchi and Amy Adams both made a grand entrance in unforgettable Cartier pieces (Monica wore a Panthere necklace that clung to her famous décolleté while Amy sported a pair of stunning earrings) while Blake Lively showed off magnificent Lorraine Schwartz emerald bracelets and Priyanka Chopra also wore a Lorraine Schwartz neckpiece stunner with her glitzy gold dress.

Michele Williams wore Louis Vuitton, naturally, with a throwaway chic velvet choker and Nicole Kidman chose a Fred Leighton necklace that accentuated her icy beauty. Ethiopian actress Ruth Negga gave a nod to responsibly sourced Gemfields rubies and also wore Fred Leighton jewellery.

Isabelle Hupert flew the French flag in a wonderful sculptural Repossi earcuff while Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross rocked a stack of eight diamond rings by various designers, from Noudar, L’Dezen by Payal Shah to Hueb. Exciting stuff and proof that the creativity of jewellery today is unrivalled.

The event was an extraordinary and unrivalled pageant of incredible pieces, which were just a taste of the splendour of the jeweller's art.
