Who knew your coffee maker could look this good? Who knew your coffee maker could look this good? Pictures supplied by Dolce & Gabbana, South Africa

When you hear the word "Smeg" you usually think of funky looking fridges, right? Try to extend that image to smaller appliances as well, from toasters to blenders! Dolce & Gabbana did a collaboration with Smeg fridges last year and in 2017 the two companies have combined creative forces to create "Sicily is  My Love", a new small appliances Smeg collection with a unique D&G touch.

The appliances range from kettles and coffee machines to citrus and slow juicers, toasters, blenders and stand mixers, usually the most plebian and hardest working items in your kitchen.

Their decorations of gold lemons, citrus fruits, prickly pears and bright red cherries are some of the typical Sicilian decorations framed in triangular motifs called crocch.

There are also delicate floral motifs inspired by the coasts and landscapes of Southern Italy and images of Mount Etna, surrounded by ornamental friezes, picturesque ruins of the Greek temple of Castor and Pollux in the Valley of Temples, trinacrie and cartocci, a decorative motif similar to stylised acanthus leaves.

All these are symbols of an aesthetic inextricably associated with Sicily, home of course to Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, and more generally with Italy and its cuisine of which Smeg has always been an interpreter of excellence.

All of these small but precious kitchen appliances create the food and products typical of Southern Italy, its ancient traditional dishes, the roots to which the heart and mind cannot but return.

The products are not individually hand-painted, but they are industrialised copies realised through a precise industrial application process and will be certified as “Made in Italy”.

They are so gorgeous it makes you scream: "I have to have one - or  two - or even three or four".

Because the new collection is so beautiful, this month Dolce & Gabbana and Smeg will show the exclusive collection "Sicily is my Love" at the 2017 edition of the Salone del Mobile di Milano, from 7-10pm, at the  Metropol in Viale Piave 24.

South African foodies will be thrilled to know that the products will be available in 2018.
